FOUR people have been charged after a spate of knifepoint robberies across Whitefield and Prestwich.

Noman Bashir, aged 20, of Beckingham Road, Manchester and Abdullah Chaudhry, aged 19, of Park Road, Prestwich have both been charged with six counts of robbery, 12 of attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and handling stolen goods.

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have also been charged with the same offences.

On Tuesday, November 20, officers received six reports of knifepoint robberies that occurred over a three hour period in the Whitefield and Prestwich areas.

On Wednesday, November 21, police were told a man had been seen being assaulted and robbed on the car park of Prestwich tram station two days before. Police were also told a group of men involved in a scuffle with another man near the tram station off Rectory Lane.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Barker of GMP’s Bury Division, said: “While I appreciate the details are limited, I’d encourage anyone who saw anything to get in contact with us.

“The assault happened between 11.20 and 11.30pm on Monday, November 19 and we have not yet been able to verify that the victim is safe and well.”
