FIREFIGHTERS have praised a family's response to a fire at their Farnworth home.
Crews were called to Rydal Grove shortly after 6am this morning to reports of a fire breaking out in the kitchen of the property.
The blaze was believed to have started when an item stored on top of a cooker caught fire.
A woman and three children, who were inside the house at the time, managed to escape and waited outside for the fire service to arrive.
Crews put out the fire and were at the scene for between 30-45 minutes.
The family's quick response helped to ensure that no major damage was caused to the property.
Steve Coote, watch manager at Farnworth Fire Station, said: "The occupants did all the right things.
"They shut the door to the fire, raised the alarm and waited for us, which kept the fire down to a minor incident.
"It was textbook from their side. Accidents do happen but it is just being mindful that smoke alarms do raise the alarm and keep the damage down to a minimum."
