FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning after a bin fire outside a flat this morning.
Crews were called to Ashley Grove, close to Almond Street in Farnworth, at about 4am.
They arrived to find the bin on fire close to the front door of a property.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and were at the scene for about 25 minutes.
Steve Coote, watch manager at Farnworth Fire Station, said: "The fact it was so close to the front door caused quite a bit of concern.
"The smoke alarm alerted residents so it was quickly seen and dealt with. It is imperative that people have a working smoke alarm.
"We appreciate that it is difficult but we would also advise people to keep their bins in their compounds and keep rubbish to a minimum."
