A CAR fire in Great Lever is being treated as a suspected arson attack.

Firefighters were called to the incident in Newport Road at about 11.40pm last night, and discovered a Vauxhall Corsa engulfed in flames.

A crew from Bolton Central Fire Station worked at the scene for around half an hour to put the fire out.

Police are carrying out an investigation into the incident, which left the vehicle with extensive damage.

Tony McKenna, watch manager at Bolton Central, said: "The vehicle was well alight when we arrived. It was 100 per cent fire damaged.

"We informed the police and they are carrying out an investigation.

"The vehicle is suspected stolen and was then set on fire."
