FIVE miles of Dutch-style segregated cycling lanes and 71 new or upgraded crossing points are being proposed for the town as part of a regional scheme.
These lanes are part of 64 miles of cycling and walking routes which will form part of a new network of routes, called Beelines.
The £160 million route network is designed to be easily created and could be in place by 2023.
Transport for Greater Manchester and the ten boroughs want to make walking or cycling the natural choice for short journeys.
Cllr Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, said: "Our region suffers from some of the worst levels of air pollution in the country."
