TWO best friends have teamed up to help the homeless through their amazing weight loss success.

Wendy Connelly, from Whitefield and Adele Stretch, from Rochdale, both aged 51, have raised over £700 for for homeless charity Supporting People In Need in a sponsored slim.

When they joined Weight Watchers in Whitefield earlier this year when they together weighed over 30 stone, and were determined to say goodbye to the pounds.

Already keen fundraisers the friends decided to set themselves a challenge to lose four stone between them in just six months.

They have so far raised £765, and are confident of smashing their £1,000 target — pledging to meet the sponsor money if they don't reach it.

Ms Stretch said: "I have lost 31lbs which is brilliant as I have never dieted before.

"I feel better in myself and much fitter and can shop on the high street now instead of specialised shops."

Ms Connelly added: "My weight is coming off slowly but I have noticed I can fit into my clothes again, especially my jeans that I haven’t worn since October last year.

"I have a long way to go but I am loving the Weight Watcher's Flex plan, it really does work."

Adele and Wendy, who have know each other since they were eight years old, became best friends six years ago through their weekly work for SPIN.

The Longsight-based charity provides sanctuary for around 12 homeless men who have battled drug and alcohol addiction and even been trafficked from Romania.

The charity also provides job and voluntary work opportunities to help centre users into employment and accommodation.

As part of their work for SPIN Adele and Wendy help collect and serve food to the homeless on Monday evenings, and Sunday lunch for up to 100 people — a cause close to Adele's heart following a period of homelessness with her son.

The pair now have just over one and half months to go before their fundraising deadline of July 8.

Their Weight Watchers coach, Jacki Murphy, said: "I am so proud of how well Adele and Wendy are doing.

"Adele has never followed a healthy eating plan before and she has just picked it up and run with it.

"I love seeing her pictures on social media as she shows off her new figure.

"Wendy is a role model in how to maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst dealing with the additional challenge of spending a lot of time in Spain. "They are both shining examples of how to live your life, enjoy yourself and still lose weight.

"I know they will smash their goal weight and raise money for this fantastic cause."
