A DEER had to be rescued by firefighters after finding itself in a sticky situation this morning.
A crew from Whitefield Fire Station were called to Mersey Drive Primary School, in Whitefield, at about 5am to reports that the animal had got its head trapped in some metal railings.
The deer is thought to have lodged its head through a gap before it became stuck.
John Van Geffen, watch manager at Whitefield Station said: "The deer was in a bit of distress and had a few minor injuries, just cuts and scratches.
"It looked like it had stuck its head through and got stuck. Its back legs were going like mad trying to get itself free.
"We used hydraulic equipment to spread the bars and as soon as it was released it ran off."
