A POPULAR Whitefield bar has closed pending a review of its premises licence.

On October 27, Bury Council received an application from Greater Manchester Police to review the licence of the White Room, in Bury New Road.

It is believed that the bar closed voluntarily last week.

A spokesman for Bury Council said: “The reasons for the review are the Prevention of Crime and Disorder, Public Safety and Prevention of Public Nuisance.

“The matter is currently in the representation period which is due to end on November 24.

“The application is due to be considered by the council’s Licensing Hearings Panel on December 19 at 1.30pm in the Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury.”

Sgt Carolyn Jones, who applied for the review, said she did not wish to discuss the case prior to the hearing.

In November, 2016, a mass brawl took place at the bar involving up to 30 customers, as well security staff.

One man was left unconscious following the incident.
