GEORGE Sampson will continue to reinvent himself as a musical theatre star next year when he steps on stage at The Lowry.

The former Birchwood High School student and youngest winner of Britain’s Got Talent has joined the cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

He will play Dean and join the likes of Shane Richie when the West End musical comes to the Salford Quays theatre from July 21 to August 1.

The story follows a 16-year-old teenager as he overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness to become a drag queen.

George, who has appeared in Emmerdale, Waterloo Road and Mount Pleasant, is returning to the stage after taking on the role of bad boy Reecey in Our House in 2017.

Nica Burns, producer of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome George Sampson who shot to fame as the youngest person to win Britain’s Got Talent at the tender age of 14.”

Shobna Gulati (Coronation Street, Dinnerladies) has also just been announced as Ray, joining Layton Williams, who currently stars as Jamie in the West End, and Shane Richie as Hugo/Loco.

Nica added: “We are delighted that our first national tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is packed with stars. Together they will give you a fun, funny and fabulous evening.”
