THE following is a letter I have written to Bury Council.
I am writing to enquire about the use of my council tax during the present weather conditions. We are paying very high taxes and we seem to be getting fewer services.
In past years the council would grit main roads and then clear and grit the side streets. Our street is completely inaccessible both on foot and by car, and both grit bins have been empty for at least two and half weeks.
Obviously I am aware that these are extreme weather conditions that have taken the country by surprise, however I always presumed that by paying such high taxes we were prepared for such occurrences, otherwise I am unsure what our money is being used for.
In addition to this, during Christmas we were told not to put any extra bags out with our rubbish. However, due to the streets being inaccessible we have not had our bins emptied this week. Will the council now be taking extra bags away when they do collect, or is this once again a service that our high taxes do not cover?
I would very much appreciate some answers.
