‘Confused and fearful’ is partly mistaken

BEING white, and not only English but born in Radcliffe, I would not possibly try to denounce the feelings of “confused and fearful half breed”, because one would have to be in a similar position to him to do so.

However, I feel that he is mistaken in some of his assumptions.

Firstly, while it is true that 4,000 people in the MBC voted for the BNP in the European elections, their actual percentage of the poll fell. The only reason they gained two seats in the European election was the complete collapse of the Labour vote, and the subsequent adjustments to the proportional representation system applied by the EU Parliament.

The vast majority of people in our borough are not racist, in fact they are generally tolerant, but the unfair laws imposed by the Government, passed I have no doubt for the right reason, have in fact had just the opposite effect, and have resulted in immigrants being given preferential treatment particularly in employment and housing, to the detriment and annoyance of very many people.

Your correspondent is also I fear, making the wrong assumption when he says “he fears how many more BNP voters are out there who didn’t vote”.

I believe that the BNP were the only party to maximise their vote, while supporters of the major parties demonstrated their displeasure with all of them Bernard Slingsby Hawthorn Court Radcliffe
