READING the Bury Times the other week sent an Arctic chill down my spine. The recent election results revealed that almost 4,000 people in this town voted for the BNP — that’s about the average crowd for a Bury FC home game, isn’t it? And that was just those who actually voted; it fills me with dread to think how many more supporters are out there, but who thankfully didn’t exercise their democratic right.
It’s silly things like this that just make me want to move out of this town altogether.
As my mother and father were both immigrants, that’s kind of the idea of what these people want, isn’t it?
If they had their way, I’d be presented with a problem, as my mum and dad were from different countries that don’t border each other. So where do I go? It seems it is not correct for me to claim to be British, despite being born and bred here, with a strong Mancunian accent and fluency in no other language. I guess I’ll have to sit in a dinghy in the middle of international waters, or do some kind of timeshare.
I’d better not publish my name as my wife and daughter have the same surname as me and it would be wrong to subject her and others who know me to the awful attitude of intimidation that this party represents.
Confused and fearful half-breed
