It’s refreshing to see a young person in politics

In response to Mrs W Dewar (Letters, February 25 2010). If, at 27, someone is too young to be a Parliamentary candidate then what can be said of the former PM William Pitt who took office at 24, or the great Winston Churchill — he became an MP at 25 I think.

Unimpressed by election leaflet talk on recycling

In over 50 years of being eligible to vote, I have never received such a pathetic leaflet as the one from Maryam Khan, the Labour Party candidate.

Fundraising pays the bills

In answer to Mrs Dewar (Letters, February 25) all funding of any Labour Party campaign, including Maryam Khan’s, comes from party fundraising and donations from members, all of which are recorded for official scrutiny.  This includes raffles, coffee mornings, subscriptions etc.

Has Ashcroft helped Bury?

IT is excellent news for Radcliffe that Millwood School is to relocate to the Abden Street site. As the first council built school in over 30 years this is indeed welcome news for our town. Congratulations must go to all who worked so hard to achieve this outcome.
