Sedgley Tigers 41 Rotherham Titans 12, National League One
LOOKING down the barrel of the relegation gun, the Tigers pulled out enough big shots of their own to preserve their National League One status on the final day of the season.
In a nervy opening quarter, Sedgley took the lead through a Phil Jones penalty. Then on 10 minutes they were handed the man advantage when Titans' Louis McGowan was sin-binned.
Making the most of the extra body, Chris Leck sent wing Chris Briers down the right and over the Titans' line, Jones converting.
However, once McGowan returned, Rotherham looked to stretch the Tigers and Errie Claassens went over on the left. For the rest of the half the visitors forced the pace with Sedgley having to hang on defensively until the break.
Briers dropped the ball in the act of touching down at the start of the second half, but the Tigers won the resulting five-metre scrum and the ball was again spun out to Briers and he made sure this time, touching down on the right.
Adam Newton then crossed by the corner flag and Jones' boot made it 22-5. The game was put beyond doubt when Jones slipped an inside pass to Skurr who crossed by the posts to give Jones the easiest of conversions.
On 56 minutes Briers turned provider, slipping a pass inside to Luther Burrell who barged his way over before Jones beguiled his markers with a quick show-and-go before gliding over to make it 41-5.
Winger Geoff Griffiths crossed on the right for Titans, but it was the home side who were celebrating a famous win - and another season playing League One rugby
Director of rugby, Tim Fourie, said: "Our first aim was to stay in this division and we have achieved that. Our second was to climb away from the dogfight, which we didn't.
"But ultimately we have to celebrate the fact that a club like this is still in National League One, which is a huge achievement."
