Pertemps Bees 19 Sedgley Tigers 11

THIS defeat against the division's bottom side has left the swing doors of the Last Chance Saloon rattling in the wind.

An inability to beat the Bees has plunged into jeopardy the Tigers' four-season run in the First Division. Emerging from Solihull without even a losing bonus point while Launceston prized one out of Bedford means the Tigers simply have to beat Rotherham this Saturday if they are to remain in the game's second tier.

As for this game, the Tigers never got off the bus.

The home side were the more aggressive from the opening whistle and scrum-half Paul Knight was on target with a penalty kick on 15 minutes. However, just three minutes later Phil Jones cancelled it out with a kick of his own to make it 3-3.

Tigers' Chris Leck then pounced on a loose ball and his kick ahead forced a Bees' defender to bundle the ball into touch. With the home side penalised at the lineout, the Tigers kicked for touch into the left-hand corner where they executed a textbook lineout catch-and-drive with Jon Skurr claiming the touchdown to give the Tigers a 3-8 lead.

The Bees stormed straight back and were twice held up over the Tigers' line before Knight kicked the next penalty to make it 6-8.

Two minutes after the restart a cheeky kick over the top found the Tigers' defence struggling to win the race for the ball and Bees' wing Cameron Mitchell touched down in the corner. Knight added the extras and the home side led 13-8.

With the Bees looking more interested Knight kicked a third penalty on 58 minutes, only for Jones to wipe it out four minutes later to make it 16-11.

The Tigers found themselves on the wrong side of referee Mr Ashley Rowden all game and it was no surprise the Bees were presented with further kicking opportunities, one of which Knight took to make it 19-11.

The Tigers must now beat Rotherham at Park Lane on Saturday, kick off 3pm, in their final match of the season, or face relegation from National Division One.
