Sedgley Tigers 16 Moseley 6, National League One

MOSELEY knew they would be in for a tough time at Park Lane and they were not disappointed as Sedgley sealed their first win in 10 games.

From the first whistle such was the ferocity and aggression shown by the Tigers that, despite being handed a man advantage as early as the second minute, the visitors were not allowed to do anything with it. Against 14 men they switched their point of attack repeatedly but could not stretch the Sedgley defence enough to make the powerplay count. The Tigers took the lead on 13 minutes with a Phil Jones' penalty kick.

With the sin-binned Juan Crous back on, Sedgley forced Moseley on to the back foot but, unable to make headway with the ball in hand, they in turn were forced to kick.

On 20 minutes, Sedgley won a lineout five metres inside the Moseley half and fired the ball along the backs to Luther Burrell. He stepped through the Moseley defence before slipping the ball to Matt Riley in close support, who cantered to the posts to give Jones the easiest of conversions.

Jones then kicked a second penalty as the visitors' attacking efforts continued to be shut out by an uncompromising Sedgley defence.

With the wind behind them in the second half, Moseley looked more interested, but not before Jones' boot made it 16-0 two minutes after the restart. Moseley finally got on the scoreboard with a Greg MacDonald 30-metre penalty. He was on target a second time, but the longer the game went on the more the Tigers looked more likely to score, with only a desperate defensive effort keeping them out.

Four minutes from time, Jones missed a further penalty shot but by then the result was in the bag and the Tigers' nine-game losing streak was finally brought to an end. With no game this weekend, third-bottom Sedgley have two weeksto prepare for the do-or-die trip to basement club Pertemps Bees.
