Hungry Tigers delight over victory

TWO emotions dominated director of rugby Tim Fourie's post-match thoughts after leading Sedgley Tigers to victory over Moseley - delight and relief.

"I was impressed with everyone's attitude, every single player got stuck in," he said after his side ended a nine-game losing streak by beating the Red and Blacks.

"You could see how much we all wanted the win by how Juan Crous launched himself at them and got yellow-carded in less than two minutes.

"Their danger man was flanker Neil Mason but every time he got the ball Crousy and Jon Skurr were there to stop him.

"Our set-piece worked well, we defended as a team and we created plenty of attacking opportunities; moves came off because we played our parts both individually and collectively.

"In fact, my only disappointment was that we did not take more of the chances we created.

"If we had we would have secured the win a lot sooner, because when Phil Jones missed his last penalty kick, they still had time to grab a converted try and maybe a drop goal."

With no game this weekend the Tigers have two weeks in which to prepare for the do-or-die trip to bottom club, Pertemps Bees.

"As far as we're concerned our fate is in our own hands," he said: "We still need to work on our composure, especially when we play our slow game; we need to remain calm and methodical." The only doubt at the moment is winger Chris Hall, but he has a fortnight to get over his leg knock, while skipper Jimmy Ponton is hoping to force his way back into the starting 15.

And in the week when the second string clinched the Bateman BMW Championship after winning the latest of its 24 consecutive victories and with three games still to play, Fourie paid tribute.

He said:"I put the team's success down to the enthusiasm of coaches Rich Senior and Steve Hazzelby. They are first team players who have played a number of second team games and the success is down to the hunger shown by the regulars and the youngsters coming up through the colts."
