IT'S not often mighty Plymouth are knocked out of their stride, but they finished the game with as many cuts and bruises as they did points.

Not surprisingly, Tigers' director of Rugby Tim Fourie was proud of his charges' efforts on Saturday, despite a narrow defeat. He said: "I was chuffed with the level of commitment shown. We performed as a team and deserved the win never mind a losing bonus point.

"Our defence was a lot better, particularly in the first half, but we still left a few holes. That is something we will continue to work on, along with how to stop a rolling maul.

"We must now try in our remaining games to at least match that performance if not improve on it. If we can I believe we can win all four."

The Tigers are just five points above second-from-bottom Pertemps Bees.

"If we can win our next two we then go down to Birmingham to play them knowing the pressure is well and truly on them," Fourie added.

This Saturday London Welsh visit Park Lane (kick-off 2.30pm) with the Tigers eager to carry on where they left off at Plymouth.

"Down at their place we were in control at half-time but lost our composure and ended up losing 23-21; we can't afford to do that again," he said.

"As a player I aim to play the best I can every game and although I'm 40 now I will be out there giving my all. As a coach I want my team to do the best it can game in, game out.

"We all want to continue playing in National Division One and we are united in achieving that goal."

Skipper Jimmy Ponton picked up a knee injury at Plymouth. However, it's hoped he will recover in time to face the Exiles.

Another knee victim was prop Alistair Livesey who looks doubtful, although front-rower Phil Gazzola should be back in contention.
