Fourie runs rule over seconds
TIGERS' Director of Rugby Tim Fourie took the opportunity to run the rule over the second string last Saturday, in Halbro Cup semi-final action away to Manchester. Unfortunately they lost 19-17.
"We had the majority of the play, territory and possession but couldn't make the most of it in a very tight game," he said.
"Manchester had their strongest line-up available while we were missing one or two, particularly up front, and it showed.
"We lacked composure in certain areas, running the ball from everywhere, but it is a very steep learning curve and the younger players will have learned some valuable lessons.
"There is definitely plenty of potential in the squad and hopefully they can now learn from those lessons and go on to win the championship."
As for first team matters, the Tigers' return to league action this Saturday with a trip to Plymouth.
"They are a team we have never beaten, but if there is ever a time to play them, it is now. They've lost their last seven and while we might be used to going on a losing streak they are not.
"If we can get on top of them early the crowd will get on their backs. "With no game last weekend the guys have had time to get over their knocks and we've had four good training sessions, so we're looking forward to taking on Plymouth."
Bottom club Launceston occupy one relegation spot, the other is currently filled by Pertemps Bees; however, the Birmingham side beat Rotherham 24-30 and are now just five points shy of the Tigers.
"That shouldn't put any more pressure on us than is already there," said Fourie. "Like them we've five games left - we simply have to win more than them.
"I can't see them winning more than us so if we win our next three (Plymouth away, London Welsh and Moseley at home) we will be safe by the time we travel down to Birmingham."
