Tigers raring to go against Scots

RUGBY UNION: Sedgley Tigers aim to get stuck into London Scottish at Park Lane on Saturday hoping to secure the points they need to ensure National League One survival.

Rich Senior’s men suffered a disappointing 33-13 reverse at Redruth, but the Sedgley head coach said the score did not really reflect the game.

“We conceded two first-half tries and went in 19-3 down at the interval,” he said. “But we rallied and got it back to 19-13 before conceding a soft try to go down 26-13, and from there it became very difficult.

“We were trying to play out of defence and we got put under pressure and I thought we were better than the score suggested.”

Senior has no new injury concerns as his side prepare to take on London Scottish with second row Paul Williams and centre Chris Hall vying for starting places after recent injures.

“London Scottish play quite exciting rugby and we’re looking forward to getting them here and getting stuck into them.”

Tigers will end their campaign after the Scottish game with another home game against Newbury on May 1 before travelling to league-leaders Esher on May 8 to play the game which was postponed earlier in the season.

Redruth proved too powerful for the Tigers last weekend but Matt Riley, who scored all the visitors’ points, managed to silence the famous “hellfire corner” of the Recreation Ground and put a spring in Sedgley’s step early in the second half.

Scrum half Will Runciman found a willing runner in the shape of Nick Flynn, who was stopped short of the line by the determined Cornishmen.

But the Tigers would not be denied and quick ball found Riley on the move with a good inside run, which was not picked up by the Reds defence, and he crossed for an easy try.
