WHITEFIELD’S rising boxing star Rhys Roberts is being lined up for potential fights in America and South Africa.
The 19-year-old super bantamweight, who has a 100 per cent record from seven fights, is one of the hottest properties in the country after being snapped up by Hatton Promotions earlier this year.
In his last fight, he beat Welshman Jason Thomas on points with a classy display — and he won a few overseasadmirers in the process.
Hatton Promotions are working closely with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and there were representatives from America present at Roberts’s last fight in Altrincham.
They liked what they saw and it could lead to some jet-setting for the part-time barber.
“These are exciting times for Hatton Promotions,” said chief executive Gareth Williams, who lives in Bury. “Rhys has got a great attitude and was fantastic against Thomas.
“We had people over from Golden Boy Promotions and they were impressed with him and liked his style.
“They are keen to take him to America to fight over there, and we have also had interest from promoters in South Africa.
“We are very pleased with him and Ricky is keen that he helps to mould Rhys into a star of the future.”
Roberts and Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club stablemate Scott Quigg, who could also fight in the USA and South Africa, could return to the ring on July 7 in Altrincham.
