Sprinters get plaudits at Sheffield


ATHLETIC: It was the turn of Bury AC’s senior sprinters to take the spotlight as a small team competed in the North of England Indoor Championships in Sheffield. Sol Bah produced the best performance of the weekend, recording a personal best of 7.09secs to take sixth place in the 60m. Anthony Ashton was unlucky to miss out on joining bAH in the final, recording an excellent 7.12 for fourth place in his heat.

Marvin Edwards recorded a time of 23.42 to come sixth in his 200m semi final. In the 400 metres, Carlo Balsamo ran 51.10 to take fifth place in a very competitive heat, and James Colbeck 54.69 for fourth place in his heat. In the U20 60m, Matt Elkin was just outside his personal best, running 7.47 for sixth place in the heats.

Meanwhile, youngsters Jack Williams, of Besses o’ th’ Barn, and Nicky Brisbane, from Prestwich, excelled in the under-13s events at Sport City indoor Sporthall arena.

Against other teams from around Greater Manchester, Williams and Brisbane were first and second respectively in the speed jump.

They finished in the same order in the six-lap event and Williams bagged a third in the shotput with a 6.5m effort. Brisbane was third in the vertical jump while suffering from an injured hand.
