Prestwich bounced back with a spirited display against Bury Grammar Old Boys on Tuesday night after Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 reverse against Accrington Amateurs.
Determined to right the wrongs from the weekend’s league fixture, Prestwich started brightly and should have taken a second minute lead when John Blezard’s ball across the six yard box was narrowly missed at the far post by Declan Lewis.
But the visitors were dealt an early blow when a Bury forward weaved his way through the Prestwich ranks to plant a shot just inside Scott Parker’s upright after just eight minutes.
On the hour, Matty Lott’s free-kick deflected wide to set up a succession of corners for the visitors that finally resulted in a Roberts blast from the edge of the box to pull the scores level.
But Bury hit straight back and capitalised on indecisions at the back as a long ball over the top was headed over Parker to restore the home side’s lead.
A frantic few minutes of goal action was not finished as Prestwich went straight up the other end with Roberts running half the length of the pitch before drawing the keeper and slotting in to the bottom corner.
Lee Metcalfe’s men will now look to take this vastly improved performance in to Saturday’s Lancashire Cup game as Prestwich travel to Middleton to take on Santos FC of the Lancashire and Cheshire League. Kick off on Bowlee Playing Fields is 2pm.
