STAND paid the price for batting first in their eight-wicket defeat at Glossop.
It appeared to be a good toss to win, but the ball seamed around early and although it was slow going for the Whitefield men there was no cause for panic at 34-1 after 10 overs.
With Matt Curphey back in the pavilion for five, professional Amila Weththasinghe joined Dave Taylor and signalled his arrival with three boundaries square of the wicket in his first seven balls.
But a series of dismissals in quick succession proved to be Stand’s downfall.
Chris Holt was the only batsman apart from the classy Weththasinghe to make double figures and the visitors capitulated for 103 with Glossop’s Sri Lankan pro Perera claiming 7-37.
Glossop’s openers Bates and Toft underlined the hosts advantage with a blistering start, but Stand acquited themselves well in the field.
Weththasinghe made an early breakthrough as Bates was caught at slip by Carl Sutcliffe.
Man-of-the-match Perera joined Toft and the pair hit the accelerator to reach 78-1 after 20 overs.
Toft (32) was then harshly judged caught at slip with his bat nowhere near the ball with bowler Stuart Catterall not even appealing.
Glossop captain Adam Wilson joined Perera and blasted an unbeaten 20 in 10 balls to see out the homse side’s victory.
Stand entertain Irlam at the SCG on Saturday when an improved batting display is imperative.
Meanwhile, Stand’s second string notched a win thanks to an impressive 207 off 47 overs in their rain-affected match against Glossop.
With thunderstorms bringing proceedings to a premature close Glossop on 82-8, the Whitefield side took the win on run-rate.
On Saturday they travel to Irlam aiming to continue their climb up the league table before they entertain Flowery Field in the semi-final of the Hulme Trophy.
Stand’s third team notched their first win of the season with a 112-run win over Denton West.
