Weththasinghe hits top form for Stand

STAND enjoyed a comfortable six-wicket victory over Dukinfield at the SCG to pick up maximum points.

Batting first, the visitors were blown away by a superb spell of fast bowling from the pro Amila Weththasinghe as he helped skittle Dukinfield for just 75.

Weththasinghe produced his best spell of bowling for the club so far to claim 7-19, including the key wicket of his Sri Lankan counterpart, Anil Ridee, Dukinfield pro and dangerman.

Carl Sutcliffe provided excellent support, piling on the pressure from the Hamilton Road end as he took 2-22.

Only skipper Dave Gandy provided any real resistance as he hit 20 including two maximums. Matt Curphey claimed a wicket in his two overs, before Weththasinghe wrapped up proceedings thanks to a smart catch from Sutcliffe on the boundary.

Dave Taylor and Sutcliffe then got Stand’s innings off to a fine start, reaching 23 without loss in the seventh over before the latter was bowled by Ridee for six.

That left Taylor to carry on his rich vein of form, hitting a positive 23 before falling to a superb catch from by Ditta.

Weththasinghe and Catterall added a third-wicket partnership of 29, before the Sri Lankan left a ball from Mingham which turned and hit his stumpts.

Catterall then went for 10 and it was left to Chris Holt and Andrew Sharp to see Stand home.
