AFTER three weeks of intense training Prestwich Heys step up their preparations for the forthcoming season next week with two matches inside 24 hours.

First up, on Tuesday, Jon Lyons’ side open their Myles N Kenyon Cup campaign with a short trip to face Radcliffe Town (7pm).

Radcliffe, who play at King George V playing field on Outwood Road, finished mid table in Division Two of the Lancashire Amateur League and will provide a good early test for Heys who will also play Bolton County and local rivals Prestwich FC in the competition.

The following night Heys raise the curtain at Sandgate Road with an eye-catching friendly against North West Counties League Premier Division outfit Maine Road (7.15pm).

The south Manchester side came fourth in their division last season and start the season under new management.

Lee Bennett, who guided Hindsford to the Manchester League Premier Division title last season, has recently taken charge of the Brantingham Road side who will be well be versed in the way Heys play.

It will be a stiff test for Heys but will provide a good indication of where they are at in their pre-season preparations to which they added matches in the Atherton Charity Cup last week.

Heys have been drawn with their Manchester League rivals Hindsford in the group stages of this season’s competition.

The clubs were involved in the thrilling battle for the Premier Division title last season which saw Hindsford come out on top and the sides will now get an early chance to have a look at each other in the Charity Cup, which The Tonics won last season.

Hindley Town make up the three-team group. Town play in the Wigan Amateur League Premier Division, where they finished fourth last season and will provide a further stern test for Heys.

Heys will travel to Hindley on Monday, August 4 and host Hindsford on Thursday. August 7.
