YOUNG footballers from Our Lady of Grace school in Prestwich are celebrating winning the Crofton Cup in a thrilling nine-goal final that went into extra time.

Up against holders King David primary, it was always going to be close and it was the opponents who struck first.

Our Lady responded immediately with an equaliser, but it was against the run of play, and from the restart King David once again pressed dangerously.

They edged ahead again from a splendid free kick.

A third goal followed swiftly and it was a jubilant King David team that ended the half 3-1 up.

After the interval, it proved to be a game of two halves.

Our Lady slightly altered their formation and were a team transformed. Two goals in quick succession made it 3-3.

There were just a couple of minutes remaining when an unstoppable right foot shot found the net to make it 4-3 and the game had been turned around.

But, from the restart, King David levelled with just seconds remaining. In the first half of extra time an Our Lady midfielder surged into the penalty area and was brought down from behind.

The penalty was converted to seal a 5-4 triumph.
