SEVENTEEN Radcliffe AC runners took part in a local midweek 5k race this week.

A good performance from Rob Shiels saw him finish in fifth place out of 62 runners in a time of 19mins 05secs.

Tony Holt was next home for Radcliffe in eighth place in 19:40, followed by Mike Cooke in 20:25, Dave Bartlett in 22:29 and Mauro Rotondi in 23:00.

Chemane Brier was 25th overall and second senior lady in 23:27, while Kris Lee ran 24:28.

Paul Barrington recorded a time of 25:03, Chris Saville 25:29, Zena Knowles 26:43, Carly Rourke 27:22, Iain Harris 31:54 and junior Harley Knowles 32:04.

There were prizes for club members in the Joan Rhodes and Fred Norris Memorial Multi-Terrain Race, raising money for St Ann’s Hospice.

Robson Maycock was first junior in 24:23, Kath Davies was first vet-50 in 26:13, Sheila Jones first v55 in 25:02 and Eileen Royle first v65 in 27:52.

Vet-50 Tony Holt was top super-vet and 13th overall out of 150 competitors when he took part in the super sprint triathlon at the Brideshead Revisited Triathlon festival weekend at Castle Howard in Yorkshire.

He completed an 800m swim in the Great Lake, a 46k bike ride and a hilly 8k cross country run in 2:28.00.

Four members tried out a new park run at the Watergrove Reservoir in Wardle, Rochdale on Saturday.

A hilly but scenic course was enjoyed by Mauro Rotondi (v40) clocking 24:50 in 10th place out of 35 runners.

Vince Ashton (v40) ran 27:51, Kath Davies 28:08 and Eileen Royle 29:41.

Dave Bartlett had a good run in the midweek six-mile Black Knight Charge in Ashton-under-Lyne when he came 52nd out of 170 runners with a time of 47:05.
