Sedgley Tigers 44 Otley 11, National Division One

THE Tigers put their Yorkshire rivals to the sword with tries from Matt Riley, Richard Wainwright, Mike Roberts, Chirs Hall and Tom Blackwell (2).

With Steve Nutt in imperious form with the boot, kicking a total of 14 points for Sedgley, the Otley crew must have been wondering why they had battled through the Pennine snow to make Tuesday night’s re-arranged fixture.

After Nutt opened the scoring with a penalty on three minutes, Riley took Ben Lloyd’s perfectly timed off-load to finish off a fine Tigers’ move for the first try, which Nutt converted.

Nutt stretched the hosts’ lead again on 20 minutes with a penalty forced by some fine aggressive play from the Park Lane side.

Wainwright then scooped his own kick to go over in front of the posts for another simple try before Nutt added the extras.

Otley dug deep and Ben Hough kicked a penalty as a result of Juan Crous’s crunching tackle on their ball-carrier to get the first points on the board for the visitors.

When Christian Georgiou added a try for Otley, Hough missed the conversion to make the half-time score 20-8 in Sedgley’s favour.

Otley then came out for the second period with all guns blazing, with Hough kicking another penalty.

But a blitz of three Tigers tries in 10 minutes then took the game away from the Yorkshiremen.

The first came on 57 minutes when Hall was the first to reach a loose ball before showing a clean pair of heels over the final 30 metres to touch down before Blackwell — on for Roberts — weighed in with a brace of tries. Nutt missed the first conversion but was more fortunate with the second.

Otley had the final say when Hough went over for a simple try in the last play of the match, although he missed the conversion.
