SEDGLEY Tigers tasted victory for the first time this year much to the relief of coach Rich Senior.
The side have had a lean time of it recently and their frustrations have been compounded by a long lay-off over December and January.
But the way they overran Otley in the quickly rearranged clash on Tuesday saw the Tigers haul themselves clear of the relegation zone, much to the satisfaction of Senior.
“We performed really well,” he said after the 44-11 mauling of the Yorkshire side.
“We showed great determination, worked hard and played as if we were enjoying it and earned a good result.
“It was nice to get back to winning ways. We were always in front and the margin of victory would have been greater but we let them in for a late score.”
Senior said it was a team effort but singled out lock-forward Dean Williams for his outstanding contribution.
The coach added: “Dean has been waiting for his chance for a while but we brought him in and he did really well. He will be in the side on Saturday.”
The victory, which earned the Tigers five points, eased the pressure as it lifted them out of the relegation zone.
They are five points clear of Cinderford, the team immediately below them and four points behind Redruth, a mid-table side who visit Sedley Park on Saturday.
