RICH Senior says the current run of postponed games is the worst in his 20 years in the game.
The Sedgley Park head coach holds little or no hope of Saturday’s home game against Newbury going ahead. That will bring the total of Tigers’ postponements to three matches in a row, with their last game on December 12.
“I have been involved in first team rugby for 20 years and in all that time I have never known anything like this,” he said.
“After this weekend it will be four weeks that games have been called off because grounds have not been fit. That’s the worst I’ve ever known.”
And Senior is not expecting any let-up soon. He added: “Next week we are due to go up to Tynedale in the North East and, although you can’t predict what’s going to happen, it’s pretty cold up there and there’s a chance that might not go ahead either.”
It all adds up to a frustrating time for the National League One club who are even finding it difficult to get together for training.
“We are struggling to find anywhere to train at the moment because of the weather,” said Senior, who had to call off Tigers’ regular training session on Tuesday night but intends to hold sessions tonight and Saturday. The postponements mean the Tigers will face a busy second half of the season.
“There is going to be quite a backlog of games,” he said. “We will play pretty much every weekend between now and the end of the season. There is usually the odd weekend you don’t play, but I don’t think that is going to be the case this year.
“We are just looking at it like a little pre-season and hopefully the rest will do us good.
“We have played a lot of weekends in the first half of the season and I’m hoping we will come back refreshed after the break.”
