HAVING beaten Newbury to round the current season off on a winning note, Sedgley Park head coach Rich Senior immediately turned his thoughts to next season.
“I was pleased with the performance, especially as it was the last game and the players were in party mood,” he said.
“But we were determined to end it on our terms. The application and hunger was still there and once we had completed our mission, we had our party.”
When one season ends it is not long before the next one begins and Senior, along with chief executive Geoff Roberts, have already begun preparations for life in the third level of English rugby.
“We’ve been planning for next season since February, talking to existing players and second teamers and looking at new ones,” he continued.
“We want to develop a side comprising locally-based players. However, in order to maintain our status and build for the future we’re always on the lookout for talented individuals from other areas.”We need to redress the balance. We’re looking at a third of the squad coming from inside and two thirds from outside the club.
“We need to build on the past in order to develop the club’s culture. We want players to work hard, enjoy their rugby and be part of a successful team. If we can do that it will be good for the club as a whole and hopefully the membership will support us.
“We really want to reward some of our home-grown players with contracts.”
