Prestwich Heys will play Turton in the quarter finals of the Bolton Hospital Cup at Adie Moran Park tonight (8pm ko) after beating Little Lever 6-0 last Thursday, write Rick Barrett and Stephen Howard.

In what proved a good work out for Heys, against a spirited Little Lever side, who battled hard, fitness levels and that little bit of extra quality in key areas told as the tie progressed in what was an entertaining game.

After a busy recent schedule, Heys made changes to their starting line up, particularly defensively with Joint Manager Lee O’Brien starting, whilst Russell Saunders returned in goal. In a side mixing youth and experience there was also a start for young Joe Simister and Jimmy Crowley on the bench where Coach Danny White and Joint Manager James Hampson also prepared to don their boots.

Heys made the perfect start taking the lead in the second minute when, not for the first time, Saidkhon Khamidov showed his eye for goal, cutting in from the left to fire home. The Lancashire Amateur League visitors responded with a shot of their own that just cleared the bar, but it was Heys carrying the greater threat with Tyler James, Dylan Fitzgerald and Vinny Howell all going close. Their pressure told in the 20th minute with a second goal when James, from just inside the box, on the right, had time to turn and finish nicely with a shot into the bottom left corner.

Both sides exchanged chances before Heys added a third goal on the half hour. With the Little Lever defence pushing up for offside, Fitzgerald went on his own to go through and finish from close range.

James went close just before the half time break and Rio Clegg just after it as Heys continued to hold the upper hand. Fitzgerald was denied a second in the 52nd minute by a goal line clearance before Clegg increased the hosts lead in the 55th minute with a lovely strike from the edge of the area.

Undaunted, the visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game, creating a couple of openings which were dealt with comfortably by Saunders before Heys added a fifth goal in the 77th minute. James was the architect as he broke down the right before squaring the ball for youngster Crowley to slot home.

Against a tiring defence, Heys wrapped up the scoring in the 82nd minute with a great goal from James, who received the ball twenty yards out before dancing through the defence and firing home.
