PRESTWICH Heys suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at 10-man Kendal Town on Tuesday night just days after being beaten 2-0 at home by AFC Liverpool write Stephen Howard/Rick Barrett.

After an energetic first half display Heys went in at half time with a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Dylan Fitzgerald penalty in the 35th minute - with Kendal’s George Philipson adjudged to been the last man.

Heys were worthy of their lead with James having twice gone close, Jacob Ngoy seeing a header cleared off the line and Kai Haigh having an effort ruled out for offside.

The hosts were not without threat however and emerged the stronger after the break and Shaun Sailor levelled matters with a crisp finish.

Heys keeper Russ Saunders was to have a busy second half pulling off four fine saves and the hosts also saw a header come off the bar.

And Kendal’s endeavour was rewarded in the 88th minute when Steven Yawson fired in a shot that took a deflection to give his side the points.

On Saturday, two goals from Elliot Hughes were enough to give AFC Liverpool a 2-0 victory at Adie Moran Park, writes

Heys went into the clash in confident mood after Mondays 5-3 win at Barnoldswick Town.

But it was the visitors, sitting second in the table, who took the lead on 42 minutes when Hughes stabbed the ball home despite the best efforts of Saunders.

Into the second half now and with the opening quarter turning into a midfield stalemate Heys fans were buoyed on the hour with the return of old favourite midfielder Brad Sixsmith coming on a substitute who re-joined the club after a short spell at Bury AFC.

But it was one of the few highlights for Heys as Liverpool were rewarded with a second goal on 66 minutes when after good work on the left it was Hughes again shooting bottom left from 12 yards.

Two more substitutions followed with Kai Haigh and Tyler James entering the action with both injecting some pace into the final quarter. It was James to the fore shooting over the bar from twenty yards and then a great chance on 84 minutes after a great ball through the middle saw him shoot, eight yards out, but the ball went just wide of McGovern’s left-hand post.

The Heys striker also had a massive shout for a penalty after being pulled back in the area, but the referee was not convinced.

Back came Liverpool with a 20-yard shot on the left bringing a great save from Saunders, and as the game suddenly sprung to life substitute Haigh had a couple of late chances bringing a great save from McGovern as Liverpool wrapped up a deserved win.

Back-to-back defeats have taken the gloss of Heys bright start to the season and they will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Longridge Town on Saturday (3pm).
