SEDGLEY Tigers coach Geoff Roberts is urging his side to maintain their excellent run of form and avoid complacency as they prepare for a trip to strugglers Luctonians on Saturday.

The Park Lane chief praised his team's effort following last weekend's convincing win over Harrogate, which helped the Tigers leapfrog their opponents into fifth place in National League Two North.

Now Roberts wants his in-form side to continue their impressive run, which has seen them record successes over leaders Hull Ionians and promotion-chasing Chester in recent weeks, against the second-bottom Hertfordshire team.

"We've been playing all the top teams and we seem to need a challenge to get the best out of us," he said.

"We've got our tails up again now and we've got the momentum going.

"What we've got to make sure is that when we play teams lower down the league that we don't start thinking that the result is a foregone conclusion mentally.

"Our performance was absolutely superb on Saturday but we've got to carry that on as we don't want complacency setting in."

With closest rivals Otley and Caldy playing out a draw, the Tigers are now just three points off third spot, and Roberts is looking for his side to finish the season on a high.

"The draw between Otley and Caldy has taken us up from seventh to fifth place and we are closing in on that third position," he said.

"The lads have grown in confidence. They know what they can do and hopefully we can now have a really good finish.

"If we can finish on a high to take us into next season that would be great."

With both teams missing a number of key players through injury, the Tigers introduced several new players into the team including tight-head prop forward Tom Dewland, who made a good impression after coming on as a second-half substitute.

"Tom came in for Ben Black who was unavailable and he came out looking good," said Roberts.

"He's at Manchester University and he's keen to stay here next season too.

"We've also got a few other new players coming through which is great."

Lewis Minikin's fifth-minute converted try gave Harrogate an early lead.

The Tigers responded with tries from David Blackwell and Max Ashcroft, with Matt Riley adding a conversion as the hosts led 12-7 with 15 minutes played.

A Joe Roundtree penalty and an unconverted try from Cameron Leadley put the visitors back in front seven minutes before the break but Andy Riley's unconverted effort ensured the Tigers would lead 17-15 at the break.

Rhys Davies' try and another Matt Riley conversion extended the hosts' lead to 24-15 early in the second half as the home side upped the tempo, before Rowntree kicked a penalty for Harrogate.

Ashcroft went over for his second try of the game for the Tigers but a try from Willem Enslin and conversion from Rowntree kept the visitors in touch at 29-25.

However, the Park Lane outfit took control of the final 20 minutes with tries from Liam West and Chris Parrott, and with Matt Riley again kicking the extras the Tigers ran out 43-25 winners.

"It was a relatively close and tough match but we blasted them away at the end," said Roberts.

"I was particularly pleased with the result because Harrogate had only lost four games this season up until then.

"It wasn't quite as polished a performance as the wins over Hull or Chester but if that's what our off-par display is like thenI'm pretty happy."
