STAND’S season looks in danger of fading out with a whimper after they extended their winless streak to four matches following a 30-run defeat at Woodbank.

After last weekend’s washout against Prestwich, which followed defeats against leaders Denton St Lawrence and Roe Green, Andy Bell did his best to inspire a change in form with a steady 62.

But he was given little support as Woodbank’s bowlers restricted the home side to 219-8 off their 50 overs as they fell short of their target.

Stand’s attack had struggled to put the shackles on the visitors as Brett Collins fell just eight runs short of his century, while David Bell (56) weighed in with a gritty half-century as Woodbank put on 249-5.

The Higher Lane outfit did at least register a bonus point, but fell to eighth place in the Lancashire County League table – 20 points off top spot and seven outside the Lancashire Knockout places.

And they face difficult weekend, without matches at second-placed Glossop on Saturday and at home to third-placed Denton West on Sunday.
