DANNY Jones signed off in style when he helped Prestwich to an eight-wicket victory over Cheetham Hill on Sunday.
The all-rounder, who has spent four years at Heys Road, is leaving to take up a job in Dubai.
But before jetting out to the Gulf, he hit an unbeaten 53 as Prestwich made light work of rattling up 82-2 in reply to the visitors’ 76 in a win that kept Andy Bradley’s side nine points behind leaders Denton West in the race for the Lancashire County League title.
“During his four-year stint at the club, Danny has amassed 3,000 runs and taken over 250 wickets and will be sorely missed on and off the pitch by all who know him,” said skipper Bradley, who along with fellow spinner Carl Hey, took full advantage of the pitch conditions to rattle through the Cheetham Hill batting. Bradley took three wickets while Hey finished with figures of 4-16.
Twenty-four hours earlier, Prestwich had to settle for two points from a rain-affected match at Woodbank.
The home side reached 136-3 in their allotted overs when heavy rain forced the abandonment before Prestwich could start their innings.
Bradley’s men travel to Denton on Saturday, hoping to keep pace with Denton West, who they still have to play.
