Unsworth get ready for action

Unsworth have begun preparations for the forthcoming cricket campaign by starting their winter nets sessions.

The Central Lancashire League outfit begin the new campaign on April 14 with the league now split into two divisions comprising eight teams – the Premier Division and the Championship Division, with Unsworth featuring in the lower tier.

The new system will see all the teams play each other four times in a total of 28 games. The first local derby of the season will be when Radcliffe visit Pole Lane on May 11.

Nets sessions are taking place on Tuesday evenings at Total Cricket in Ashton-under-Lyne, starting at 9pm and are being attended by Unsworth’s 22-year-old new professional, Cumberland Minor counties player, Chris Williams.

Overseas amateur, Ryan Hawke, is due to arrive from his native South Africa in early April.

The club boasts a proud record in the league, with the first team notching a Twenty/20 cup, two cup finals and one qualification for the Lancashire Knockout through their league position in the last six years.
