SEDGLEY Tigers’ first-team manager Geoff Roberts hopes a break in the fixture list will aid the team’s hopes of getting injured players back involved.

The side slumped to another defeat at home to Cinderford at the weekend when they went down 39-29 to extend their losing run to seven matches.

But Roberts hopes the return of key men will be pivotal when they are back in action in nine days’ time against fellow strugglers Cambridge.

There could be as many as four people back for that game.

Injuries have certainly hampered the season for Sedgley, and Roberts believes they are where they are because of it.

The boss said: “We need to get some momentum going and, after the break next week, we should have players coming back.

“We could live with one, two or three out as that is what you do throughout a season.

“But to lose as many as seven or eight starters is hard to handle.

“Facing the teams around us in the next few games might give us the boost we need to start getting wins on the board.”

In the most recent outing, Sedgley could not change their luck against fifth-placed Cinderford.

But they did manage to pick up a bonus point for scoring four tries in the match.

There were two tries apiece for Matt Riley and Juan Crous and three of those four were converted, twice by Tom Carlisle and once by Steve Collins.

Carlisle also managed to score a penalty for the home side to add to the scoring.

However, Sedgley missed goal-kicking chances which could have made it a tighter game on the day.

Roberts added: “It was a much better performance, and we were up against a tough team. We missed several goal-kicking opportunities which could have made it a lot tighter.

“We were able to get four tries so we were able to get a bonus point, which will help.

“Hopefully, soon, we can add wins to that when we get some big players back.”
