WHAT is BDS — and why should we support it?
This is the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement established by Palestinians as a way of drawing the world’s attention to their wretched state under Israeli occupation.
Until 1948, Palestine existed as a single unified state, whereas now it only exists in fragments, mainly Gaza and the West Bank, under control of a hostile apartheid neighbour.
But it is not only Palestinians who are protesting; among the Israelis who support BDS are musicians Aviad Albert and Yoav Beirach.
Among Israeli academics are the writers Michael Neumann (The Case Against Israel) and Ilan Pappe (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine).
BDS is about boycotting Israeli goods and services as a way of fighting the enemy in a non-violent way.
