Firefighters had to put out the flames of vengeance last night after a girlfriend set her partner’s clothes on fire.
The crew from Whitefield arrived at Hampson Mill Lane in Bury just after 9.15pm to find the pile of clothes – including a pair of trainers, a cap and T-shirt - burning on the front path of a house.
They put out the blaze and, after knocking on the front door and getting no reply, were about to leave when the girlfriend came to the front door.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, then explained what had happened.
Watch manager Tim Eaton said: “The girlfriend who lived there burnt her boyfriend’s clothes because she said he had cheated on her.
“There was just a pile of clothes burning merrily away.
“She was obviously fed-up or annoyed with him.
“A passer-by noticed the fire and rang it in. She was quite happy with herself. There was not a lot we could do other than put the fire out.
“It’s definitely different to some of things we go out on, and it’s not something we would recommend doing, but she seemed happy.”
