SCENE: The van was abandoned in Ringley Park
A VAN thief travelled across the county border before being followed by police and ditching the vehicle.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the red Ford Transit Connect was abandoned in Whitefield at approximately 1am on Tuesday morning.
Officers in a patrol vehicle chased the van up Stand Lane towards Ringley Road.
The driver abandoned the van, which was stolen from West Yorkshire, in Ringley Park and fled on foot.
The van, which also had a false number plate stolen from West Yorkshire, contained three stolen Volkswagen sat navs which had been removed from the dashboards of other vehicles.
