PROPOSED Art Deco flats considered more in keeping with Miami have been deferred as Bury councillors requested a site visit.

The flats were felt to be too large and overbearing compared to the rest of the street by neighbours, who objected to the proposed building of seven flats.

The building would be a total of four storeys with undercroft parking.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Bentwood, a neighbour in Ringley Road, described the proposal as “overwhelming”, believing the Art Deco style was more suitable to Miami than the residential street.

Mr Fletcher, the architect, spoke in support of the application.

He said: “It’s a scheme with a difference and will be eye catching.”

Councillors proposed a site visit to view the plot and see how much space the development would take.

The application will be revisited at a later meeting.
