A MAN has been rushed to hospital with "life changing injuries" after a collision between a moped and a car.

Emergency services were called to Manchester Road, Whitefield, shortly after 8.30am.

Fire crews, police and ambulance crews were sent to the scene.

Upon arrival they found that there had been a collision between a moped and a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

The fire service was called as it was originally believed that the moped rider was trapped under the vehicle but when they arrived he was at the side of the car.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The rider of the moped was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries."

It is believed that the man suffered head and leg injuries.

The air ambulance landed at the scene but was not needed and the casualty was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital by road ambulance.

Manchester Road/Bury New Road was closed between Sunny Bank Road, near The Blue Bell pub and Radcliffe New Road.

It re-opened at around 3pm.

Emma Ghafar, who lives in Manchester Road, very close to where the incident happened, said: “I didn’t see it but I heard a loud bang, I was inside with my baby at the time.

“It looked like it was very serious."

It is believed the motorbike was travelling in the direction of Manchester from Bury.

Another witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said there were two people in the car.

“One had already got out of the car but then the ambulance pulled the driver out of the passenger side,” they said.

The witness said it was difficult to see exactly what happened next because a fire engine blocked the view of residents.

They said the emergency services treated the man at the scene for over an hour before he was taken away in the ambulance.
