A ROBBER kicked a 60-year-old woman to the floor before stealing her backpack in an "unprovoked attack" in Whitefield.

Police have released this image of a man they want to identify in connection with the incident, which happened in March.

At around noon on Tuesday, March 8, the woman was walking through Thatch Leach Lane Park when a man kicked the back of her leg, causing her to fall.

He grabbed her backpack and took it from her, before leaving the park towards Thatch Leach Lane.

The backpack contained the woman’s credit cards, driving licence, a Galaxy S5 tablet and an amount of cash.

The woman suffered bruising and a fractured wrist, which she received hospital treatment for.

PC Chris Linton of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “This was an unprovoked attack which has left the woman with injuries she is still recovering from, as well as the psychological trauma the attack has left her with.

“I’m appealing to anyone who may recognise the man in the picture or anyone who has any information that could help us with the investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
