MOTORISTS are being warned to avoid Bury New Road because a tanker is blocking both sides of the road.
The tanker is currently blocking both sides of the road between the junctions of Rufford Drive and Sunny Bank Road, near Whitefield Fire Station.
A police spokesman said the driver of the tanker tried to turn around but became jack-knifed.
He added that the tanker is carrying non-toxic waste.
The road has been closed while it is recovered.

Stephen Hardacre, who was in the area at the time, said: "It seams the driver became stuck after trying to carry out a three point turn. The road was blocked for about two hours before heavy rescue pulled it free."
