A WORKING mum from Whitefield has launched her own children’s holiday camp after growing frustrated with "boring" activities on offer during half term.

Kelly Harris, aged 37, wants to teach youngsters how to entertain themselves after her own two children were left consistently disappointed by holiday camps and events when they were off school.

The Mothers' Party Academy will be geared towards primary pupils aged six to 11, where they can take part in a host of activities which will teach them how to busy themselves by creating party games, balloon displays, magic tricks and costume making.

Kelly also says the club is ideal for working parents who would struggle to take time off during school holidays.

She said: “After paying and sending my kids to endless amounts of half term camps and them always coming home complaining that they were boring, I thought it would be good to launch one that would be so fun, the children wouldn’t want to go home.

"When you read about them, at first they sound great but then when the children come back they always say that it was a let-down.

“Parents pay a lot of money for these things so obviously you expect that your children will really enjoy them and that you’re getting your money's worth.

“The best solution I could come up with was just to try and organise one myself."

Kelly runs her own agency, Mother of all Events, so knows a thing or two about how to organise a party.

She said: “We just thought that since children love parties we would try and do a new kind of camp where we teach them how to throw a party as opposed to just attend one.

"We're going to start out doing two weeks in April, then we hope to expand and create a project-style camp where the children can create a production where parents are invited to watch and find out what they’ve learnt."

The camps cost £16 per day for one child and £14 for each sibling, with the first running from April 4 to 7 and the second from the April 25 to 29.

The Mothers Party Academy will take place in the function room and garden at Woodthorpe Hotel in Prestwich.

Those who are interested can attend a free launch party on Easter Monday which will aim to show people a taster of what the camp will involve.
