A former Whitefield pupil is gaining hands-on industry experience to boost his career aspirations.

Gavin Bailey, aged 25, who used to attend Elms Bank Specialist Arts College, is completing a supported internship programme at Topps Tiles in Bury, together with fellow Bury College student Nathan Statham, aged 20.

They are completing general work tasks and gaining an insight into real working life for two days every week.

The scheme is a study programme which provides young people with learning difficulties the opportunity to experience work and achieve their working aspirations.

Bury College has developed a number of partnerships with high profile companies, such as RRG Bury and high street giant BHS, and is delighted to welcome the popular chain supplier of tiles, natural stone and wood flooring on board.

Bury College lecturer Tammy Davies said: "Topps Tiles have been enthusiastic since our initial meeting and have been very proactive in setting-up the project. I am looking forward to our students progressing throughout their time there.”
