FIREFIGHTERS were sent to tackle a motorway smash involving a petrol tanker and a car.
The collision, on a slip road of the M62 at junction 18 for the M60 at Simister Island, happened at about 4.30pm.
Firefighters removed the roof of the Volkswagen Polo to free the driver, who was trapped inside.
He was suffering from back and neck pain and was taken to hospital. The tanker's driver was uninjured.
Initially the slip road and one lane of the motorway was closed, but all lanes have now reopened.
