A STUDENT has penned a song to raise money for a homeless charity after witnessing poverty on the streets of Manchester.

Jennifer Hyman, aged 15, has released her single ‘Out Here’ under the name Miss Jenem, with profits over the next three months going to The Big Issue Foundation.

Jennifer, of Deane Close, Whitefield, will also get the chance to perform on the same stage graced by the likes of Katy Perry, Adele and Robbie Williams after getting to the final of a music competition.

A Year 10 student at Withington Girls School, Jennifer travels through Manchester on the bus to and from school, and has seen homelessness at first hand.

She said: “The more money I can raise the better as I think that the work the charity does is what the homeless really need.

“Seeing the problems which exist on the streets had a big impact on me — it stirred up a few emotions.

“These people don’t have much and often it’s hard to get help, so the more we can do to help them, the better.

“Every little helps, especially during the winter months.”

While she awaits the response to her new single, Jennifer has her sights set on following in the footsteps of international superstars.

She will perform on the main stage at the O2 Academy in Leeds on February 1 for the final of the Soundwaves Music Competition.

The competition, for unsigned acts nationwide, will give her the chance to impress industry professionals and record her music at the best recording studio in her region.

She said: “This is a once in a life time opportunity which I am very grateful to have and I am very excited at the prospect of playing on a stage played by so many talented musicians.”

Her mother Karen, aged 48, added: “I’m really, really proud of Jennifer.

“She’s done this all herself and she’s done amazingly well. Music is her life.”

Jennifer’s song ‘Out Here’ was released on December 20 and is available on iTunes under the name Miss Jenem for 99p and on Amazon MP3.

Her music can be checked out on her YouTube channel Miss Jenem and she can be followed on twitter @MissJenem and on her Miss Jenem Facebook page.
